Schools

Volunteering allows students an opportunity to gain real-world work experience, to build valuable skills, to work as a team, and to build connections in the local communities where they live and attend school. It is important for leaders in schools to understand the benefits of volunteering and the impact volunteering has on both the school and the community when students are encouraged to give back.

Joining Extreme Community Makeover for a Work Day incorporates volunteerism into real-life experiences while providing the following benefits:

  • Meet new people. Volunteering is a great way to extend social networks and connect students with others who share common goals and similar passions.

  • Become a leader. Developing leadership skills often happens naturally while getting involved with a cause that students care about.

  • Work in a team. Volunteering is a collaborative experience and provides a great way to boost patience, grow empathy, develop understanding, and strengthen communication skills.

  • Have fun. Stepping away from the daily rhythm of classwork, gets students outside and off their computer in order to meet new people, to learn new skills, and to gain a sense of accomplishment and pride while having fun.
